Term 1 in Performing Arts

My first term at Berwick Lodge has been a quick and exciting one, but I have had a lot of fun getting to know the students and the amazing skills they have.

Preps have spent the term learning new terminology and skills related to sound, rhythm and movement. They have learned new drama games and even been making up their own music using percussion instruments.

Grade 1 &2 have been developing their skills in music, I have seen some great talent in our percussion circles. We have also been learning new drama games where we had the chance to work in teams while improving our spacial awareness and movement skills.

Grade 3 & 4 have been traveling around the world learning about different types of theatre. We have gone from Greece to Japan and 1500 years into the past. Each week we explored a new type of theatre and used a legend from the country to inspire a short play. We have improved our confidence by performing in front of the class and we are getting better and better at communicating within our groups.

Grade 5 & 6 are the kings and queens of improvisation. We have spent the term drawing inspiration from things such as videos, pictures, songs and objects to build performances. We have also been reflecting on the process using video recording, voice recordings and prezi. Some classes even got the chance to master the ‘Thank God you’re Here’ Improvisation game.

I can’t wait to get into term 2 with Wakakirri and a whole lot of fun on the cards.
